Changing Body, Changing Hormones

She has had irregular periods since she was a teenage. Her doctor decided hormonal birth control was a good option to control this issue. She has been experiencing annoying vaginal discharge ever since this time. However, she recently began having a discharge unlike any she had previously experienced—like mucus with some old blood in it. Each day this discharge increases. What is happening here?

Case #: 1490

Concern:

I have been experiencing irregular periods since my teen years. Because of this my doctor decided to put me on birth control to regulate my periods. Ever since then I have been experiencing vaginal discharge. A few months ago I got weird discharge that was a lot different than everything I had been experiencing before. The discharge almost had a mucous texture and had a tint of dry blood in it. As the days went by the discharge became more and more excessive than the previous day. I just got tested so I know I don't have an STD. What could any of this mean? What could be the reason behind all of this? Please help me; this has really started to freak me out.

Discussion:

Please stop worrying! Your discharge is nothing to be afraid of and is nothing unnatural or unsolvable. Your hormones have changed in a way that is causing your body to react this way—the hormone levels you had throughout your teenage years have changed to a different ratio as you’ve grown older. This has caused the discharge you’ve been experiencing to change, too.

A New Stage

When you are a teenager levels are significantly different from when you reach maturity. It’s possible that that fluctuations that led to you having an abnormal cycle during your formative years have now evened out, and the extra hormones you’re ingesting are causing your body to react to this presence in such a manner. From the discharge you’re describing, it seems to me that your body has begun producing too much progesterone.

How Is Your Flow?

Are you still cycling on time? Do you menstruate one time each month, or has it become more or less a general bloody mucosal discharge? If you are actively menstruating each month, I would recommend beginning a detoxifying formula, to help your body to filter out the unnecessary hormones and to kick start your body back into proper alignment. If you’re not having a specific “period” once per month, I think we should focus more on your actual hormonal levels, rather than helping your body to flush your system out.

What’s Your Malfunction?

My reasoning is that if you’re is still having one point per month when you have a heavy flow of blood, and not a slow dribble of brown, red, or pink discharge throughout the month, then you simply have a little too much progesterone, and that can be easily amended. If you are having a constant sludge problem, then your hormones are more out of whack than a simple detoxification would fix, and you should discuss your hormone levels with your doctor, perhaps considering a different dosage in your birth control.

I recommend discussing with your doctor simply because a direct modification of your hormonal intake will have greatest effect on your problem, should that prove to be the cause, not because you are in grave need of medical attention.

Handy Herbs

However, I do have an herbal solution that will ease your problem, no matter the true cause. (TRY: Natural Herbal Formula for Vaginal Detox & Infection Relief) This is because it features herbs that both detoxify and help to modulate hormonal issues in females. Fo Ti has been used for centuries to help the kidneys and liver function properly to cleanse the entire body of toxins and excess or unneeded chemicals. Fenugreek encourages hormonal balance in females by promoting the production of the essential feminine hormones estrogen and progesterone.

I’m sure that by beginning this supplement your frightening and bothersome symptoms will soon be diminished. Stress no longer!

What to do

Vaginal Infection Relief & Detoxification Formula

Antibiotics and birth control pills can alter the balance of the ‘friendly’ micro flora that subsists in the vagina. Pathogens from these drugs can result in yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis, with symptoms ranging from abnormal discharge,...
